After writing my piece, Dadaism and the Punk movement, I realised that my Jouhikko is the perfect art object to represent this writing.
The Jouhikko is simplistic, minimalistic and a return to simple shapes and basic materials. Which is very similar to Dadaism. It’s an ancient instrument with strong links to primitivism. Which links to Hugo Ball’s outfit when he was performing.
It is also a punk response to our complex and digital world. Creating something that is old because I don’t care for the new. Setting fire to the instrument was also a nihilistic response to materialism. Nihilism being a strong theme within the punk movement.
